Susan G. Komen: Race for the Cure

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is an extraordinary foundation. Every year they hold a Race for the Cure where you have the choice to enter the competitive 5k run or the non-competitive 5k walk, which goes all throughout Denver. Volunteers manage to handle and run this national event. Entering costs a fee of 30-35$ and all of the money goes to researching a cure for breast cancer. 1.5 million people support this foundation and many manage to donate more than the required 35$. If more people would do this then breast cancer could possibly be cured.

The foundation is called Repower America.This organization speaks to people in general about how we need to have a cleaner environment. My favorite organization is Make A Wish Foundation. They grant wishes for people with life treating medical conditions. They have been granting wishes since 1980. The first wish they ever granted was to Christopher James Greicius whose wish was to be a police officer. The family had a friend who was a police officer so, he granted the wish. The police officers’ name was Tommy Austin. So on April 29th 1980 the wish was granted. Christopher got to ride in a police helicopter, which also flew him to headquarters. There three cruisers and a motorcycle greeted him before meeting with the DPS command staff. There, Chris was sworn in as the first honorary DPS patrolman in state history. The giving didn’t stop there they mad him a custom uniform and the seamstress worked throe the night to finish it. On May 1st they gave it to him and had motorcycles proficiency test so he could earn wings for his uniform. Chris did an outstanding job and passed with his battery-operated motorcycle. May 2nd Chris was tooken back to the hospital and redid his room so he could see his uniform helmet, and “Smokey-Bear” –style campaign hat. DPS motor officer Frank Shankwitz presented him with Chris’ wings and he took them with a smile, which lit up the room. Sadly the following day Christopher James Grecius passed away, but gladly before his wish came true. They get their money from people donating to their charity.

The Jurney’s had their family haircut but not the way they wanted. The family all shaved their heads in support of their son who has bone cancer. He was diagnosed with it on April 27th. About 20 Oberon students, 3 teachers and several Ralston Valley High School also shaved their heads. Looking for the good

One very brave restaurant employee saved an elderly lady from what could have been a very sad and fatal death. She was in her car when a lamppost fell and crushed her car. This accident occurred on Broadway in Bayonne, right in front of the Lighthouse restaurant. Seconds after the light fell Heshan Fahmy pulled the lady out from her car just before the car burst into flames. This person saved a life without being asked I think that was truly amazing.

In Bayonne, New Jersey, a Honda Pilot came flying past a stoplight on Broadway and 31st St., then slammed into a car driven by an elderly woman and finally stopped after knocking over a streetlamp.
Then, Hesham Fahmy, a restaurant employee nearby ran to the car containing the elderly lady. The moment he pulled the woman out of the car, the car burst into flames.
After the accident, the owner of the restaurant came to have a look. She said ,”There was a truck on the sidewalk, but it wasn’t tipped over or anything. And, there was a car, and it was crushed, and it was in flames.”
Everyone seemed to be OK after the accident, although the woman was taken to Bayonne Medical Hospital.

My favorite example of good was the Habitat for Humanity. They did such a generous thing. In Aurora they built 11 homes for the people who deserve homes. They were determined to finish in 7 days. It was really nice and good. Even Fox reporter Dan was there and took a report on the good deed. Those people must be very thankful for Habitat for Humanity to do something so great! They must be really happy that they got a new house.

Save the children is an organization that helps kids throughout the world. They help kids in the U.S and other countries, to learn how to read and write, or just to have enough food for the day. One of the countries that they are working in now is Ethiopia the people there don’t have food. So many children are starving. They are giving the people and children Plumpy’nut, it is a peanut based paste. It comes in a foil package and it doesn’t have to be refrigerated or use water to activate it. Plumpy’nut has vitamins and minerals in it to help the malnourished children. But they need help from sponsors because there is an estimated 900,000 adults that don’t have enough and 350,000 children.

ANIMAL RESCUE HELP

People state wide are trying there best to help save animals, and put them out of their cages, and into good homes. People come and volunteer everyday to walk, feed, and entertain animals. The problem is that people keep breeding there animals (not getting them neutered) and then bringing them all to the shelters. And not everyone comes and wants to adopt an old cat or an old dog, that’s not playful or active anymore. So the old animals end up in the shelters for a long time then being put to sleep because no one wants him or her.
